That’s very interesting. As you point out John Allen’s #2 I thuohgt I’d add a comment on that. I agree the global incidence of persecution of Christians is not all about Islam. All the points that he makes are valid. The Buddhist attitude in some parts is lost in the pervasive idea of Buddhist peacefulness. I might add the persistent persecution of the Karen people who are Christian to their list of misdemeanours. Hinduism as well has been highlighted. I disagree as a primary source the Israeli checkpoint security issue. The difficulties imposed on Christians is by default and is not intended per se. The security being the result of the need to protect the Israeli citizens from violent acts of persecution against them. While it is not all about Islam, Islam stands out from the rest in one significant way. The theological ideas, which are expressed politically through Sharia and culture and is therefore theocratic, which together formulate and bring about systematic persecution. What is different from Hinduism and Buddhism is that it is expansionist. Therefore its persecuting theocratic effects will be everexpanding and encompassing territories if it is able. Moreoever its punishments are not sporadic but legitimised and defined. Therefore the burden of what makes up acts of persecution within Islamic confines can’t be put down to sporadic, isolated acts of extremism or intolerance. Rather they are acts of legal jurisprudence and traditional thuohgt. That makes all the difference. What I find interesting and incorrect is Regis Defray’s comment that Christian victims of persecution are too Christian to excite the left. The reason is that even the systemised persection and suffering of h0mosexuals within Islam is unchallenged. Nor is any female subjugation. I don’t know why but one thing I have found is that the realities evident within Islam show up the emptiness of the posturing about oppression by the left in the Church and without it as well. Feminism is reduced to withering admiration for the burqa by the likes of Naomi Woolf. The Christian left thinks it more fit to dwell on Islamophobia concocted for the purposes of shutting up those who notice the obvious suffering of outsiders within Islam. It corwns itself with the highest of honours tolerance .even the tolerance of the suffering of the weak.
